Prepare captions for a narrated film

Captions need to reflect the actual audio and remain synchronized with it. Plan a reviewed captioning step in your publishing workflow instead of assuming a generated video automatically supplies accurate, ready-to-use captions.

Planning sequence: File, then Metadata, then Preview, then Publish.

A practical method

  1. Transcribe or obtain the final spoken track.
  2. Correct names, numbers and meaningful sound information.
  3. Review timing and readability in the destination player.

An example brief to adapt

Written illustration of this method; not a report of a rendered film or a customer result.

Prepare a caption-review checklist using my approved narration as a reference. Remind the editor to compare it with the actual rendered audio, since wording or timing may differ. Flag names and numerical statements for careful review before uploading the caption file.

Review before moving on

  • Does text match the actual audio?
  • Are important sounds represented where needed?
  • Are timing and readability checked?

Record a concrete observation beside each check: a line in the treatment, a source passage or a timestamp in the downloaded film. If you cannot inspect an item yet, leave it open. A request in a brief is an intention; the result is what must be reviewed.

What to avoid

Automatic transcription is a starting point, not final approval. Review especially small words that reverse meaning, such as not, before publishing.
