Tell a story in one location

A single-location story concentrates attention on changes inside a stable space. It can reduce unnecessary scene complexity, but the room still needs a meaningful action rather than a static description.

Planning sequence: Situation, then Change, then Consequence, then Ending.

A practical method

  1. Define the space using two or three recognizable features.
  2. Introduce a problem that can be resolved there.
  3. Change framing and character action instead of adding new locations.

An example brief to adapt

Written illustration of this method; not a report of a rendered film or a customer result.

Plan a 45-second film inside a small fictional bookshop during rain. A bookseller tries to protect a leaking shelf, then discovers customers quietly helping. Keep the doorway, shelf and bucket in consistent positions. Use one narrator, with no spoken character dialogue.

Review before moving on

  • Is the location understandable?
  • Do actions create progression?
  • Does the set remain consistent between shots?

Record a concrete observation beside each check: a line in the treatment, a source passage or a timestamp in the downloaded film. If you cannot inspect an item yet, leave it open. A request in a brief is an intention; the result is what must be reviewed.

What to avoid

One location is not a guarantee of visual continuity. Review furniture, entrances and prop positions, especially when different shots are generated separately.
