A practical method
- Store the original source title, URL and access date.
- Record the passage used without losing its context.
- Update broken links carefully and document any substantive correction.
An example brief to adapt
Create a source-maintenance checklist for my published explainer. Prioritize the links supporting its main conclusion. If a page disappears, flag it for review rather than replacing it with an unrelated page that merely contains similar keywords.
Review before moving on
- Does the replacement support the same claim?
- Is the original context preserved?
- Does a change require a public correction?
Record a concrete observation beside each check: a line in the treatment, a source passage or a timestamp in the downloaded film. If you cannot inspect an item yet, leave it open. A request in a brief is an intention; the result is what must be reviewed.

What to avoid
Replacing a source silently can obscure that the evidence changed. If the underlying claim is no longer supported, correct the presentation rather than only repairing the hyperlink.
