Define the audience for an AI video

An audience brief describes what the viewer already understands, why they are watching and what they need next. Age or job title alone cannot determine the right vocabulary or level of explanation.

Planning sequence: Audience, then Question, then Treatment, then Approval.

A practical method

  1. Describe the situation in which someone will watch, such as preparing for a first interview.
  2. List two things the audience knows and two things the video must explain.
  3. Choose one action or understanding that should change after viewing.

An example brief to adapt

Written illustration of this method; not a report of a rendered film or a customer result.

Create a 60-second English narrated orientation for people attending their first community repair workshop. Explain what to bring and how to ask for help. Do not assume they own tools. Use fictional participants and an animation look; ask me for the workshop's actual rules before writing details.

Review before moving on

  • Are unfamiliar terms explained?
  • Does the example match the viewer's situation?
  • Is the requested next step realistic?

Record a concrete observation beside each check: a line in the treatment, a source passage or a timestamp in the downloaded film. If you cannot inspect an item yet, leave it open. A request in a brief is an intention; the result is what must be reviewed.

What to avoid

Do not ask the assistant to invent audience research or quote conversion rates. Treat the audience description as a working hypothesis until you have feedback from actual viewers.
